Winter weather has reached every corner of the country this season. While there is still plenty of winter weather in the next few months, the light is starting to appear at the end of the tunnel with the arrival of spring right around the corner. I encourage all members to consider volunteering in May at the National Peace Officers’ Memorial Service in Washington D.C. As you know this service cannot be accomplished without the assistance of our volunteers who unselfishly give of their time and finances to attend and support survivors. During the week volunteers are needed at the Auxiliary command hotel to stuff programs and prepare bus bags. Volunteers are needed at survivor and escort registration at the COPS host hotels, May 15th, day of the service; volunteers are needed onsite to help with setup, distribution of water and programs, and at survivor’s hotels with coordinating loading of buses and providing support to survivors on buses. During the service volunteers are needed to help with line-up, movement at wreath and medallion tables, and maintaining clear aisles around seating. Come for the week or just for a day; volunteers are needed throughout. We will have an auxiliary booth at tent city and at lodge 1; stop by and visit our booth. If you are available while in DC consider volunteering a few hours at one or both of the booths. See information and link in this edition to sign up. Watch the National Auxiliary Facebook page for upcoming zoom talk that will offer information and answer questions on volunteering during Police Week. I hope you will consider attending Police Week this year and offer your support for the events. The Auxiliary will again utilize the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Springfield Virginia as our host hotel. The hotel offers king bed studio suites that have pull out sofa bed and kitchen for $159.00 plus tax and one bedroom king suite that have pull out sofa bed and kitchen for $169.00 plus tax. (Note: one bedroom suites are limited and will be reserved on first come first serve basis.) Free breakfast bar and free parking are provided. We will provide transportation for volunteers from our hotel with our auxiliary vans to volunteer spots. The Rooming Request Form is included in this Informer. Rooms will go fast and must be booked through the National Auxiliary to receive the special rate. All reservations forms must be returned to me by March 31st. The National Auxiliary is very proud to stand behind and support the men and women of the Fraternal Order of Police and Law Enforcement.

Terri IjamalThings are already moving quickly this year!!I do know we continue to share in the sadness and grief of the blue and blood families that have lost a love one, or are helping their loved one recover. Our continued prayers, support and commitment to “Never Let Them Walk Alone” does not go unnoticed. Updates from the Ways & Means Committee. Start thinking about volunteering with Ways and Means at Police week. We will be set up at both Tent City and at FOP Lodge 1. It is a lot of fun and you meet awesome people. Will have the ways you sign up in next month’s informer!! Still in development.... Bonnie is currently working on our “campaign” message that would be included in the materials. More to come as we get closer to finalizing. We will need everyone’s help in getting the message out and sending letters to help our great organization raise funds. Bonnie has already done research and the committee will continue researching “Police Friendly” supporters to compile a roster. Please send to Bonnie or me any organizations that we can add to our roster. Thank you Bonnie and Glenda. Trista Salmon, Kristina Waters and I met with Andrew Bittner to continue W&M “link” addition to the FOP website. All pictures and information has been completed and sent to Andrew. Kristina has the W&M PayPal account set up, and the banking information ready to be set up to receive funds. Andrew has a project he is focusing on but hopes to get our website stood up soon. Raffle items, tickets etc. are being worked on. Virtual Fundraising Ideas are a gun raffle and virtual run, as these have both been proven lucrative and successful. There were great ideas of the weapons that are preferred as well as a vendor that is known to “donate” the weapons. Terri is taking the action to research this item, (the committee will continue to research and send ideas) Will be getting examples of jewelry for police week and website K 9 T shirts have been designed and order placed to honor the 21 K9’s we lost last year. All new Order forms will be out next month.Grand Lodge Vice President terriijamal@gmail.comNever Let Them Walk Alone

Julie BlackThis past week has been a week FULL of Zoom calls and meetings. We have had zoom with the COPS – the Wall and all of the groups together. We are putting together the largest service since the FOP and Auxiliary’s first service. DID YOU KNOW that the Memorial Service was started by AUXILIARY members wanting to recognize officers who were killed while performing the very jobs that officers’ love to do. Auxiliary members – got together and planned the very first memorial service. That gives me the biggest chill just thinking it was our past and still present auxiliary members who had the vision to honor our heroes. And look where it is today! It has moved to the grounds of the United States CAPITOL. FORTY services have been planned including 2 during COVID. This is amazing. Thank you to those that had the dream to make this service happen. Those of us who have suffered a loss whether it be a spouse, a parent, a child, a sibling, a friend or co-worker – whatever our connection to the fallen – Thank YOU for having that vision and making it happen. The number of officers that we will be honoring in May is just about 560. We still have a few names that need to be looked at but we are very close to verifying the numbers and the list. we thought the 491 names in October were going to be our highest number ever…but now the 2022 Service will be the biggest service yet. In all seriousness, we do need volunteers to get the survivors through registration, ride the survivor buses to the Capitol, put blue ribbons in programs and so much more. There is always something to help with and to be a part of Police Week 2022. Please consider volunteering so that we do not have to reach out to other volunteers from our partner groups to make sure we have enough to cover our needs. The sign-up genius is already and is already accepting volunteers. The link is below. 2022 NPOMS Volunteer Sign UpIf the link does not open for you – you may try to highlight the link and ‘open hyperlink’. If you cannot get the link to work, please let Denise know at memorialservicevolunteer@fop.net.There are still Police Week Trip tickets available if you would like to purchase one or two at $10.00 each. What better way to attend police week that winning a FREE trip? Trip for 2 including airfare and 3 nights hotel—and volunteer too! Please reach out to me or anyone on the committee to get tickets. THANK you to those who are helping sell them and those that have bought SEVERAL tickets. Your support is very much appreciated. We will be selling the tickets through March 20th – drawing first week April.Grand Lodge Sergeant at Arms Julie.Black@indy.govNever Let Them Walk Alone

Bonnie CannonHello everyone from North Beach, MD. I hope everyone is doing well through this frigid winter. I don’t know about you, but I am counting the days to Spring. Our Education Services Committee had the refresher training course on the National FOP Mobile Application on the 24th and we believe it was a great help to the ones who attended. Our next training session will be in March. Our committee chairs of our Educational Services Program will be meeting shortly to discuss the next upcoming session. A date, time and topic for the next training session will be sent out shortly.I continue to work with the Ways and Means Committee on ideas for Police Week. I have reached out to our DC FOP Auxiliary members and our DC FOP Lodge members to see if anyone would be interested in volunteering during Police Week. I will continue to do so in hopes that we an get a good number of interested volunteers. The fundraising campaign letter I have been working on has been reviewed by President Lehmann and President Yoes. There is still further discussion and edits needed before we can move forward with this fundraiser. We are all excited to see the outcome once this campaign has commenced. If anyone would ever like to contact me about our training sessions, please feel free to do so at bcannon@dc-fop.orgI hope everyone has a safe and wonderful March and a lovely upcoming Spring. NEVER LET THEM WALK ALONE Mirella ArroyoDC Trusteemirella711arroyo@gmail.comDC FOP Lodge #1 Auxiliary NewsOur next event will be on March 13th at the DC FOP Lodge. After two years, our FOP will be hosting a St. Patrick’s Day party from 11 am to 6 pm. Our Auxiliary will be preparing and selling corned beef sandwiches and doing a special raffle on a beautiful Irish picture as well as selling other merchandise. Our Annual Local Law Enforcement Memorial service will be held on May 9th at 11:30 am in front of DC MPD Headquarters. A luncheon will be provided afterwards at the FOP by our Auxiliary. More information will follow about the memorial service in the next few months. We have currently reached out to our auxiliary members as well as FOP Lodge 1 members to request volunteer help for Police Week activities. We continue to provide graduation cakes to our new recruits and hopefully sometime in the new year we will be able to attend the family day with them once again. The next graduation is scheduled for some time in April.
NEVER LET THEM WALK ALONE Ann CommerotaPennsylvania Trusteeacammerota@hotmail.comScholarship CommitteeAnn Cammerota, ChairpersonCommittee Members: Cheryl Gay, Janet Momme, Mae Keiper, Sharri Daily, Lauren Montgomery, Jackie Stinson, Ramona Stone, Charlotte Scoggins, Linda Lucas, Melanie Lanier, Eleanor Minyo, Marty Goetz, Diana Stucke, Jo-Ann StafurskyHi, all, It is that time again. Time to start promoting our Kathryn M. Milton Scholarship Award. I have gotten my first entry for 2022. Unfortunately, I will be returning it because it has come from a parent lodge rather than an auxiliary. As our guidelines stand now, only auxiliary members and relatives of auxiliary members are eligible to put in an entry form. We will be looking at our guidelines and deciding if we would like to change anything to improve our participation. Perhaps this is one aspect we might want to change. The idea of including our parent lodge members and their relatives has surfaced in the past. It was rejected. The thought was that we wanted to assure that the winner would be an auxiliary member or their relative. It was even suggested that a parent lodge might be encouraged to create an auxiliary when the entry form was returned with an explanation and an invitation to form an auxiliary. Whenever I did receive an entry form from a parent lodge, I did just that. However, no one took me up on the offer to create an auxiliary for their lodge. Just thought I would throw that out there as food for thought. I am attaching both the Scholarship Guidelines and the entry form for 2022. Please help by spreading the word about this wonderful opportunity. Every little bit counts! Thank you.
Scholarship Guidelines(Revised August, 2017)The Kathryn M. Milton Scholarship will be awarded every year and the following guidelines apply:1) One $500.00 and one $300.00 grant shall be awarded to a relative of an auxiliary member, or an auxiliary member.2) The grant will be awarded to a graduated high school senior or a student attending a college, vocational or business school, to further his or her education. A second name will also be drawn to serve as an alternate in the event that the winning auxiliary is unable to accept the grant.6) The chairperson of the Scholarship committee will be responsible for notifying the winners.7) The winning auxiliary must submit to the Scholarship Chairperson the name, address, age, and institution of the recipient. This must be done within 60 days of receiving the notification. In addition, a letter of attendance from the college must be submitted within this 60 day period. 8) The Scholarship Chairperson will forward all monies to the Treasurer of the Grand Lodge Auxiliary.
