Executive Director Jim Pasco spoke with John Carlin, Acting DeputyAttorney General, regarding the need for the Office of CommunityOriented Policing Services (COPS) to remain autonomous within theU.S. Department of Justice. They also spoke about the potential for alaw enforcement commission as well as the need for congressionally-confirmed, professional leadership at the Bureau of Alcohol,Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Drug EnforcementAdministration (DEA). THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESThe House Committee on Homeland Security held a hearingentitled: "Examining the Domestic Terrorism Threat in the Wakeof the Attack on the U.S. Capitol."The House considered and passed H.Con.Res. 11 on a 218-212 vote. THE UNITED STATES SENATETHIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONThe Senate voted to confirmthe nomination of Peter P.M.Buttigieg to be Secretary of theU.S. Department of theTransportation on a 86-13 vote.The Senate voted toconfirm the nomination ofAlejandro N. Mayorkas tobe Secretary of the U.S.Department of HomelandSecurity on a 56-43 vote. The Senate considered and agreed to a motion to proceed toS.Con.Res. 5 on a 50-49 vote.
