@FOPNATIONAL@GLFOPF R A T E R N A L O R D E R O F P O L I C ETHIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONAmong the new measures President Biden will take to address gunviolence will be to direct the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), within60 days, to publish model "red flag" legislation, making it easier forStates to adopt red flag laws.President Biden's executive actions include leveraging existing grantprograms to direct vital support to community violence intervention(CVI) programs as quickly as possible to address the historic rise inhomicides and violence in many American cities. For example:The Department of Justice will give priority to applicants proposing CVI strategiesin its Comprehensive Youth Violence Prevention and Reductions Programs, a $11million competitive grant that provides funding for programs that prevent andreduce youth violence; andDOJ will make CVI a priority focus area in its FY21 Cops Hiring Program, a $156million competitive grant program that funds entry-level law enforcement officers.President Joseph R. Biden, Jr was joinedat the White House by Vice PresidentKamala D. Harris and Attorney GeneralMerrick B. Garland to announce apackage of executive actions to addressgun violence as well as investing incommunity violence interventions.
