Mayorkas for a Zoom meetingregarding a broad range of issues that fall under the jurisdictionof DHS, including border security. In addition, they discussedNational President Yoes' previous suggestion of expanding thetask force concept under DHS. During the discussion, SecretaryMayorkas announced his commitment to increasing lawenforcement access to Federal Emergency ManagementAgency (FEMA) grant funding. National President Yoes pointed to thealarming rate of officers leaving the law enforcementprofession and went on to explain how the anti-police rhetorichas caused many potential officers to pursue other careers. Next week,National President Yoes and Executive Director Pasco willmeet with them virtually on those issues. Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson spoke to staff in theoffice of Representative Abigail A. @FOPNATIONAL@GLFOPSenior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson and LegislativeLiaison Rebecca Tyus had a phone call with staff from theFACT Coalition, the National District Attorneys Association(NDAA), and the National Association of Assistant UnitedStates Attorneys (NAAUSA) regarding the implementation ofthe "Corporate Transparency Act."Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson and LegislativeLiaison Mark McDonald attended a monthly meeting of theNational Blue Alert Advisory Group. During the meeting,Richardson and McDonald provided an update on the FOP'sefforts to collect and analyze data pertaining to officers shotand killed in the line of duty. In October of 2019, the FOPpartnered with the National Blue Alert Network to collect andanalyze this important data. In coordination with the FOP, theOffice of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) willsoon be publishing the 2020Year-End Summary of LawEnforcement OfficersShot in the Line of Duty. Biden, Jr. attended and delivered remarks duringa memorial at the U.S. Capitol to honor U.S. Capitol Police (USCP)Officer William "Billy" Evans, who was killed earlier this month whena man rammed his car into him and another USCP officer stationed ata security checkpoint.At the White House on Wednesday,President Joseph R. Biden, Jr.formally announced his decision towithdraw the remaining U.S.troops from Afghanistan. The House Committee on the Judiciary considered and passedH.R. 40, the "Commission to Study and Develop ReparationProposals for African Americans Act," on a 25-17 vote. Thelegislation, which now goes to the full House of Representativesfor a floor vote, establishes a Commission to examine slaveryand discrimination in the colonies and the United States from1619 to the present and recommend appropriate remedies.The House considered and passed H.R. 7, the "PaycheckFairness Act," on a 217-210 vote.
