Since joiningthe FOP last year, she has played an integral role in our legislative efforts.Rebecca has been a strong advocate for our members and all of America'slaw enforcement officers, and we will sincerely miss having her on our team.This week we welcomed David to the National Legislative Office. In his role ofLegislative Liaison, he will be advocating for our members and the lawenforcement community. Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson represented the FOPon a law enforcement organization stakeholder call with staff inthe Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice.Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson had numerousdiscussions with House and Senate staff regarding legislation onpolice reform.

The House Committee on Oversight and Reform held a hearingentitled: "The Capitol Insurrection: Unexplained Delays andUnanswered Questions."@FOPNATIONAL@GLFOPF R ATE R N A L OR D E R OF P O L I CETHIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONThe Senate considered and unanimously passed S. Res. 215,designating the week of May 9 through May 15, 2021, as“National Police Week." The Resolution, which had 78cosponsors, was introduced by Senators Charles E. Grassley(R-IA) and Richard J. Durbin (D-IL).The Senate Committee on the Judiciary's Subcommittee onThe Constitution held a hearing entitled: "Stop Gun Violence:Ghost Guns."The Senate Committee on Appropriations held a hearingentitled: "Domestic Violent Extremism in America." U.S. AttorneyGeneral Merrick B. Garland and Secretary of Homeland SecurityAlejandro N. Mayorkas testified at the hearing.

Mayorkastestified at the hearing.S. 921, the “Jaime Zapata and Victor Avila Federal LawEnforcement Protection Act,” which would clarify that Federal lawclearly and unambiguously protects Federal law enforcementofficers operating outside our borders;S. 1502, the the “Confidentiality Opportunities for Peer Support(COPS) Act,” which would reduce the barriers for lawenforcement officers when trying to access mental healthresources; andS. 1511, the “Protecting America’s First Responders Act,” whichwould update the PSOB disability determinations and thedefinitions making it more consistent with existing Federal lawand greatly improve the ability of our injured and disabled officersto have their claims processed more fairly and more quickly.The Senate Committee on the Judiciary considered and passedby voice vote three bills which the FOP strongly supported:

TheHomeland is facing threats that have evolved significantly andbecome increasingly complex and volatile in 2021. These threatsinclude those posed by domestic terrorists, individuals and groupsengaged in grievance-based violence, and those inspired orinfluenced by foreign terrorists and other malign foreign influences.Social media and online forums are increasingly exploited by theseactors to influence and spread violent extremist narratives andactivity.
