The National Fraternal Order of Police found that 51 law enforcement officerswere shot, 13 of whom died, in 40 ambush-style attacks as of June 30, a 91%jump from the same time last year. This bill wouldaddress provisions related to Federal-aid highway, transit,highway safety, motor carrier, research, hazardous materials,and rail programs of the Department of Transportation (DOT).The legislation was transmitted to the Senate for further action.F R A T E R N A L O R D E R O F P O L I C EThe House considered and passed H.R. 3005 on a 285-120vote. This bill would remove the bust of former Chief JusticeRoger Brooke Taney from the U.S. Capitol building and replaceit with a bust of Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall.
