L I S T E N T O E P I S O D ECLICK TO SUBSCRIBENational President Patrick Yoes attended the Minnesota FOP StateConference in Grand Lake, Minnesota.On this week's episode of the Blue View, National President Patrick Yoes satdown with U.S. Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta, the third highest-ranking official at the Justice Department. A long time friend of the FOP,Vanita has a long history of working with law enforcement to build supportfor policing and a common-sense approach to criminal justice. Theydiscussed everything from strengthening the relationship between lawenforcement and the communities they serve to officer wellness.Associate Attorney General Gupta also discussed the recently announcedNational Law Enforcement Knowledge Lab, a free training, technicalassistance and resource hub for law enforcement, designed to promoteconstitutional policing, improve public safety and build trust in communitiesacross the country.

Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson represented the FOP on a lawenforcement stakeholder call with the staff of the White House DomesticPolicy Council, White House Counsel’s Office, and the White House Office ofPublic Engagement. On the call, staff provided an update regarding PresidentJoesph R. Biden, Jr.'s pardons and clemency decisions that were announcedthis week.Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson spoke with staff in the office ofSenator Cory A. Booker (D-NJ) regarding their draft of the “Violent IncidentClearance and Technological Investigative Methods (VICTIM) Act,” which isintended to be a companion measure to H.R. 5768, as well as National PoliceWeek.

THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESU.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro N. Mayorkas testified atnumerous hearings this week regarding the proposed budget of the U.S.Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including the House Committee onAppropriations' Subcommittee on Homeland Security, the House Committeeon Homeland Security, and the House Committee on Judiciary. The House Committee on Judiciary held a hearing entitled "Oversight ofFederal Efforts to Combat Human Trafficking." This hearing examined Federalefforts to curb human trafficking and how law enforcement plays a role in thisissue. The House Committee on Financial Services held a hearing entitled"Oversight of the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network." This hearingexamined efforts that the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) isundertaking as a way to stop money laundering through real estate purchasesand other means. Providing testimony at the hearing was Acting DirectorHimamauli Das from FinCEN.The House Committee on Appropriations' Subcommittee on Commerce,Justice and Science, and Related Agencies held a hearing entitled "FiscalYear 2023 Budget Request for the Department of Justice." Providingtestimony at the hearing was U.S. Attorney General Merrick B. Garland.

THE UNITED STATES SENATEThe Senate Committee on Appropriations' Subcommittee on Commerce,Justice and Science, and Related Agencies held a hearing entitled "A Reviewof the President’s Fiscal Year 2023 Funding Request for the U.S. Departmentof Justice." Providing testimony at this hearing was U.S. Attorney GeneralMerrick B. Garland. He also provided testimony at a Senate Committee onJudiciary hearing, entitled "Oversight of the Department of Justice."The Senate agreed to H.Con.Res. 74 without amendment by unanimousconsent. This resolution authorizes the use of the Capitol Grounds for theNational Peace Officers Memorial Service and the National Honor Guard andPipe Band Exhibition. This resolution was passed by the House in late March.The Senate Committee on Judiciary held a nomination hearing regardingnumerous judicial nominees. At this hearing, Ms. Nusrat Jahan Choudhuryprovided testimony and answered questions. The National FOP has called forthe rejection of her nomination due to her blatantly false and inflammatoryclaims she made in the past regarding policing in America.
