National President Patrick Yoes, members of the Executive Board, as well asExecutive Director Jim Pasco traveled to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to attend theFOP's Urban Policing Committee meeting, hosted at Philadelphia FOP Lodge #5. Ina collaborative effort, major city FOP Presidents met to discuss commonchallenges and strategize ways to protect the men and women of law enforcement.Major city FOP Presidents heard from a variety of speakers at the meeting. U.S.Associate Attorney General Vanita Gupta and Hugh T. President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., visited Monterey Park, California, to grieve with thefamilies and community impacted by a mass shooting that claimed 11 lives andinjured nine others in January. President Biden announced an Executive Order withthe goal of increasing the number of background checks conducted before firearmsales, moving the U.S. as close to universal background checks as possible withoutadditional legislation. The Executive Order will also keep more guns out ofdangerous hands by increasing the effective use of “red flag” laws, strengthenefforts to hold the gun industry accountable, and accelerate law enforcementefforts to identify and apprehend the shooters menacing our communities.President Biden is also encouraging the Federal Trade Commission to issue apublic report analyzing how gun manufacturers market firearms to minors.@GLFOP@FOPNATIONALNATIONAL FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICETHIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE WHITE HOUSECLICK TO READ THE EXECUTIVE ORDER

The Senate considered and passed cloture on the motion to proceed to debate onS. 316, which would repeal the 2002 Iraq and the 1991 Gulf War resolutionsauthorizing the use of military force (AUMF), on a 68-27 vote. An up-or-down votewill take place in the Senate next week.The Senate Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing entitled: “Protecting PublicSafety After New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen.” Testifying at thehearing were a variety of legal experts from across the political spectrum.The Senate Committee on Finance held a hearing entitled “The President’s FiscalYear 2024 Budget with Treasury Secretary Janet L.
