Throughout the day, members discussed the issues impactingrecruitment and retention. They also heard from U.S. Associate Attorney GeneralVanita Gupta, ATF Deputy Director Marvin G. Richardson and Colonel Hugh T.Clements, Jr., Director of the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services.LEGISLATIVE NEWS & ACTIVITYNational President Patrick Yoes attended the D.C. FOP Lodge #1 board and generalmembership meeting.National President Patrick Yoes attended the Southern States Conference inCharleston, West Virginia.

Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson represented the FOP at a stakeholdermeeting with minority staff on the House Committee on the Judiciary regarding lawenforcement priorities—including the “Protect and Serve Act.”Executive Director Jim Pasco spoke with Marvin G.Richardson, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Alcohol,Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), regardingFederal law enforcement hiring issues.Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson represented theFOP at a stakeholder meeting with staff in the office ofSenator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), the Senate MinorityLeader, regarding law enforcement priorities—includingthe “Protect and Serve Act.”Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson met with staff inthe office of Senator Robert P. Following this designation, theAdministration is developing a whole-of-government plan to combat the drug. TheFOP supports H.R. 1839/S. 933, the “Combating Illicit Xylazine Act,” which wouldadd xylazine to the Controlled Substances Act, listing it as a Schedule III drug forillicit use.President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., signed H.J. Res. 7 into law. The law terminates thenational emergency concerning COVID-19 declared by the President in March 2020.THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE WHITE HOUSE
