@GLFOP @FOPNATIONALNATIONAL FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICEIn an unprecedented event in U.S. history, set into motion by RepresentativeMatthew L. Gaetz (R-FL), the House voted 216-210 in favor of declaring the officeof the speaker vacant. Speaker Kevin O. McCarthy (R-CA) was removed from hisposition on Tuesday, following a contentious showdown instigated by a smallfaction of staunch conservative members. This development has thrown the Houseof Representatives and its Republican leadership into a state of disarray. The former Speaker acknowledged the situation and announced later that evening thathe would not seek reelection as Speaker, thereby leaving the position open forcontention. Representative Patrick T. McHenry (R-NC) assumed the title of Speaker ProTempore, but his authority is believed to be limited to convening and adjourning theHouse and presiding over the election of the next Speaker, which is expected totake place next week. The is no likely successor or obvious candidate for Speakerthat can unity the fractious conference, but the House cannot conduct anylegislative business until a new Speaker is elected.
