Walsh, former Secretary for theU.S. Department of Labor, to discuss the apprenticeship program the FOP begandeveloping while he led the Department. He continues to support these efforts andremains active on labor issues in Washington, D.C.Executive Director Jim Pasco spoke with Kevin B. O’Connor, Assistant to theGeneral President of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), to discussthe joint FOP-IAFF legislative event planned for next year as well as our mutualefforts on vitally important public safety issues like collective bargaining and therepeal of the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset(GPO).

@GLFOP @FOPNATIONALNATIONAL FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICEOn Monday, the U.S. Department of Justice announced that, in accordance withSection 5 of Executive Order 14074 on Advancing Effective, Accountable Policingand Criminal Justice Practices to Enhance Public Trust and Public Safety, theNational Law Enforcement Accountability Database (NLEAD) went live. The NLEADprovides a centralized and searchable “pointer” system for any sustainedmisconduct as well as awards and commendations. The NLEADS, which is designedto promote better practices in the hiring, promotion, and retention of lawenforcement officers, was activated for all law enforcement officers employed bythe U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) this week. Other executive branch Federal lawenforcement agencies will be providing their data in the coming months.THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE EXECUTIVE BRANCH

By Wednesday, the Senate concluded it could not reach a deal before the endof the year, so went into recess after resolving to complete their work early nextyear.DONATE TO THENATIONAL FOP PACDONATE TO THENATIONAL FOP PACTHIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE UNITED STATES SENATEThe Senate considered and passed S. 3427, the “Overtime Pay for ProtectiveServices Act,” by unanimous consent. The bill, which the FOP supports, now goes tothe House for further action.The Senate considered and passed H.R. 6503, the “Airport and Airway ExtensionAct, Part II,” which extends Federal Aviation Administration programs until 8 March.The legislation now goes to the President, who is expected to sign the bill.The Senate also confirmed Martin J. O’Malley as the new Commissioner of theSocial Security Administration and approved eleven military promotions that hadbeen subjected to a procedural hold.
