WEEK OF 21 OCTOBER 2019 THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTON D C THE U S DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE Attorney General William P Barr delivered remarks at the 67th Annual Attorney General s Awards Ceremony This annual ceremony recognizes employees and other individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievements leadership and service to the Department of Justice and the American people Some of those who were recognized include Assistant U S Attorneys Adam S Fels Andrea Goldbarg and Lynn M Kirkpatrick received the sole award of the Department s highest recognition the Exceptional Service Award for their successful investigation and conviction of Joaqu n El Chapo Guzm n one of the most notorious international drug cartel leaders Assistant U S Attorneys Charles Eberle and Soo Song were recognized for their efforts in the investigation of seven Russian military hackers indicted in Pittsburgh last fall Assistant U S Attorneys Sharad Khandelwal and Kate Suh were recognized for the successful prosecution of Marq Vincent Perez who had burned down a mosque and tried to blow up a car using a homemade bomb PATRICK YOES National President National Fraternal Order of Police GLFOP GLFOP FOPnational JIM PASCO Executive Director

WEEK OF 21 OCTOBER 2019 THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTON D C THE U S HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES The House considered and passed H R 2513 the Corporate Transparency Act on a 249 173 vote This bill which was transmitted to the Senate for further consideration would allow for the collection of beneficial ownership information to help law enforcement combat money laundering The FOP supports this legislation The House considered and passed H R 777 the Debbie Smith Reauthorization Act on a 402 1 vote This bill would provide much needed resources to State and local law enforcement agencies to complete forensic analyses of crime scenes and untested rape kits The legislation now goes to either the Senate or to a Joint House and Senate Conference Committee for further action The FOP supports this legislation Continued On Next Page PATRICK YOES National President National Fraternal Order of Police GLFOP GLFOP FOPnational JIM PASCO Executive Director

WEEK OF 21 OCTOBER 2019 ICYMI PRESIDENT YOES PENS OP ED IN THE HILL SENATE SHOULD CONFIRM CANTERBURY AS HEAD OF THE ATF By Patrick Yoes Johnathan Thompson and Larry Cosme 17 October 2019 CLICK HERE TO READ THE FULL ARTICLE As leaders of our nation s largest and most prominent law enforcement organizations we represent virtually every law enforcement officer in the United States and we are calling on the Senate to confirm Chuck Canterbury to be the next director of the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives ATF Historically the ATF has had the closest working relationship with state and local law enforcement It plays a vital role in fighting violent crimes at the federal level as well as the state and local level However without a confirmed director the agency is lacking in leadership Since federal law was amended in 2006 the Senate has confirmed only one out of eight nominees under both Republican and Democratic administrations The only nominee that was confirmed B Todd Jones served only 20 months This lack of permanent leadership compromises the effectiveness of the ATF s law enforcement mission We need Chuck Canterbury as director of the ATF and we strongly believe he should be expeditiously confirmed PATRICK YOES National President National Fraternal Order of Police GLFOP GLFOP FOPnational JIM PASCO Executive Director
