THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESThe House considered and passed H.R. 8772, the “Legislative BranchAppropriations Act,” on a 205-213 vote.The House Committee on Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Global Health, GlobalHuman Rights and International Organizations held a hearing entitled, “Examiningthe 2024 Annual Trafficking in Persons Report: Progress over Politics.”The House Committee on Homeland Security Subcommittee on Transportation andMaritime Security held a hearing entitled, “Protecting the Homeland – ExaminingTSA’s Relationships with U.S. Adversaries.” The House considered and rejected H. Res 1344, “Finding that Merrick Garland,Attorney General of the United States, is in contempt of the House ofRepresentatives for disobeying a certain subpoena,” on a 204-210 vote. The House considered and passed H.R. 8281, the “Safeguard American VoterEligibility Act,” on a 221-198 vote.
@GLFOP @FOPNATIONALNATIONAL FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICEThe Senate Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing entitled “Closing the JusticeGap: How to Make the Civil Justice System Accessible to All Americans.”The Senate passed several bills by unanimous consent, including H.R. 3019, the“Federal Prison Oversight Act,” S.3448 the “Never Again Education ReauthorizationAct,” H.R. 1105 the “Debbie Smith Reauthorization Act,” and S.412, the “StoppingHarmful Image Exploitation and Limiting Distribution Act.”The Senate Committee on Appropriations held a markup of S. 4677, the MilitaryConstruction-Veterans Affairs appropriations bill, S. 4690, the Agriculture-FDAappropriations bill, and S. 4678 the Legislative Branch appropriations bill, whichwere all favorably reported unanimously.S. 597, the “Social Security Fairness Act,” has reached 59 cosponsors in the Senateafter Senator M. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) signed on as a cosponsor. CountingSenator Sherrod C.
