@GLFOP @FOPNATIONALNATIONAL FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICETHIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESThe House agreed to H.Res.481, “Condemning the rise in ideologically motivated attackson Jewish individuals in the United States, including the recent violent assault in Boulder,Colorado, and reaffirming the House of Representatives commitment to combatingantisemitism and politically motivated violence.”The House Committee on Homeland Security held a hearing entitled “From Cartels toCoastlines: An Examination of U.S. Federal Efforts to Confront Illicit Maritime Activitiesin U.S. Waters.”The House Appropriations Committee Subcommittee on Defense held an oversighthearing on the U.S. Department of Defense. Secretary Peter B. Hegseth and Chairman ofthe Joint Chiefs of Staff, General J. Daniel Caine, testified. The hearing largely coveredthe ongoing turmoil in Los Angeles.The House Committee on Homeland Security held a hearing entitled “Security to Model:Securing Artificial Intelligence to Strengthen Cybersecurity.”The House Committee on Oversight held a hearing entitled “A Hearing with SanctuaryState Governors.” The witnesses were Governors J.B. Pritzker (D-IL), Kathleen Hochul(D-NY), and Timothy J. Walz (D-MN).The House passed H.R. 2096, the “Protecting Our Nation’s Capital Emergency Act,” on a235-178 vote. The bill, which the FOP strongly supported, restores the collectivebargaining rights of the law enforcement officers in the Washington, D.C. MetropolitanPolice Department. The bill has been transmitted to the Senate and was referred to theCommittee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs.The House passed H.R. 2056, the “District of Columbia Federal Immigration ComplianceAct,” on a 224-194 vote. The House passed S. 331, the “Halt All Lethal Trafficking (HALT) of Fentanyl Act,” on a321-104 vote. The bill, which the FOP supported, now goes to the President to be signedinto law.The House passed H.R. 4, the “Rescissions Act,” on a 214-212 vote. The bill wouldcancel over 9 billion in previously approved federal funding for public broadcasting.

Shumate to serve as Assistant Attorney General atthe U.S. Department of Justice on a 51-41 vote.THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE UNITED STATES SENATEThe Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommitteeon Border Management, Federal Workforce and Regulatory Affairs held a hearingentitled “Match Ready: Oversight of the Federal Government’s Border Management andPersonnel Readiness Efforts for the Decade of Sports.”The Senate Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing entitled “23 and You: The Privacyand National Security Implications of the 23andMe Bankruptcy.”The Senate voted to confirm William H. Long to serve as Commissioner of the InternalRevenue Service on a 53-44 vote. The Senate Committee on the Judiciary considered and favorably reported S. 1829, the“STOP CSAM Act,” by a unanimous vote. The bill, which was endorsed by the FOP, nowmoves to the Senate for consideration.
