Rank-and-file law enforcement officers and firefighters traveled together to ourNation’s capital to highlight the important issues facing our public safetyorganizations. They shared with Congress the challenges of public safetyofficers, including the right of public safety officers to collectively bargain,protecting due process for officers and firefighters, and repealing the WindfallElimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO)!On this episode of the Blue View Podcast, National FOP President Patrick Yoessits down with IAFF General President Ed Kelly to discuss the two organizationsand their shared fight for fairness.

The resolution holds U.S.Attorney General Merrick B. Garland in contempt of Congress.The House considered and passed H.R. 8070, the “National Defense AuthorizationAct for Fiscal Year 2025,” on a 217-199 vote. The bill would provide nearly $833billion for the Department of Defense, an increase of $8 billion from last year. Thebill will be transmitted to the Senate for further action.The House Committe on Homeland Security reported multiple bills favorably to thefloor, including:H.R 4547, the “Cooperation on Combatting Human Smuggling and TraffickingAct” H.R. 6229, the “DHS Special Events Program and Support Act”H.R. 8658, the “DETECT Fentanyl and Xylazine Act”H.R. 8644, the “DHS Intelligence and Analysis Oversight and Transparency Act”H.R. 8671, the “DHS Intelligence Rotational Assignment Program and LawEnforcement Support Act”H.R. 8575, the “Repair of the National Law Enforcement TelecommunicationsSystem Act of 2024.”

The bill would amend the State Justice Institute Act of1984 to authorize the State Justice Institute to provide awards to certainorganizations to establish a State judicial threat intelligence and resource center.Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Senator Amy J. Klobuchar (D-MN),introduced S. 4534, the “National Human Trafficking Database Act” into the Senate.The bill, which the FOP supports, would create a national human traffickingdatabase within the Federal Bureau of Investigation and has been referred to theCommittee on the Judiciary for consideration.The Senate Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing entitled "Combatting theYouth Vaping Epidemic by Enhancing Enforcement Against Illegal E-Cigarettes,"which included testimony from Director of the Center for Tabaco Products BrianKing and Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the Consumer Protection BranchArun Rao. The Senate Commitee on Armed Services continued its markup of S.4548, the“National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2025”

@GLFOP @FOPNATIONALNATIONAL FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICEPresident Biden issued a statement on the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Garland v.Cargill, which invalidated a federal rule, promulgated by the Bureau of Alcohol,Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), that outlawed bump stocks. The original rule, which went into effect under the Trump Administration in 2019,considered “bump stocks” to fall within the definition of “machinegun” under Federallaw, making them unlawful to possess.
