Graves (R-LA) and Abigail D. Spanberger (D-VA) are united in an effort touse a House procedure known as a discharge petition to force a vote on H.R. 82. Adischarge petition is a legislative mechanism to move legislation directly to thefloor provided the petition—an actual document—is physically signed by 218Members of the House. Members can begin signing this petition on 10 September—one day after the House returns to session.We are asking that ALL FOP members write or call their Representatives in theHouse and ask them to sign the discharge petition for H. Res. 1364, which is thespecial rule that will send H.R. 82 to the floor. You can also use the Action Centerto send them an email.Act NOW!!! Spanberger (D-VA) as wellas public employee stakeholders to organize our efforts to support a dischargepetition that will bring H.R. 82, the “Social Security Fairness Act,” to the House floorfor a vote.Executive Director Jim Pasco spoke with Heather J. Fong, Assistant Secretary forState Local Law Enforcement and Senior Counselor to the Secretary for LawEnforcement at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), on issues relatedto interoperability of public safety communication systems and the assassinationattempt on former President Donald J. Trump.Executive Director Jim Pasco spoke with Matthew B. Klapper, Chief of Staff to U.S.Attorney General Merrick B. Garland, on issues related to the interoperability ofpublic safety communication systems. One local high school student has experienced thistension up close, inspiring him to take action.Two years ago, Jasur Talipov launched the Trust The Badge Podcast to fostertrust between the community and law enforcement. He has recorded around 20 episodes featuring conversations with currentofficers, politicians, and citizens. While he acknowledges the legitimate incidentsthat have cast police in a negative light, he believes that law enforcement still hasa positive impact within our communities. On this episode of the Blue View Podcast, National President Patrick Yoes sitsdown with Jasur to discuss what inspired him to speak up in support of lawenforcement, and how we can heal divides in our communities.
