Witnesses, includingformer Acting Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Chad F.Wolf, testified about the current migration situation on the southern border.”THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESThe House voted in favor of H. Res. 878, expelling Representative George Santos(R-NY) at a 311-114 vote, with two Members voting present. A special election willbe held next year to fill the vacancy.The House considered and passed H.R. 5283, “Protecting Our Communities fromFailure to Secure the Border Act,” on a 224-203 vote. The bill, which prohibits theuse of any land under the administrative jurisdiction of the National Park Service,the Bureau of Land Management, the United States Fish and Wildlife Service, orthe Forest Service from being used to house aliens and revokes the current leasebetween the National Park Service and the City of New York to use portions of theGateway National Recreation Area to provide housing to aliens, will now go to theSenate for further action.The House considered and passed H.R. 5961, the “No Funds for Iranian TerrorismAct,” on a 307-119 vote with one Member voting “present.” The bill, which prohibitsthe government of Iran from accessing the $6 billion previously released to them bythe United States.
