Trump.” Kimberly A. Cheatle, Director of the U.S. Secret Service, testified.She resigned the morning after the hearing.The House Committee on Homeland Security held a hearing entitled “Examining theAssassination Attempt of July 13.” National President Patrick Yoes and ColonelChristopher Paris, Commissioner of the Pennsylvania State Police, testified. Youcan view a replay of the hearing here.The House Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing entitled “Oversight of theFederal Bureau of Investigation.” Federal Bureau of Investigation DirectorChristopher A. Wray testified. The House passed H. Res 1367, “Establishing the Task Force on the AttemptedAssassination of Donald J. Trump,” by unanimous consent. The House Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing entitled “Oversight of theFederal Bureau of Prisons.” Federal Bureau of Prisons Director Colette Peterstestified.

@GLFOP @FOPNATIONALNATIONAL FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICETHIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE UNITED STATES SENATEThe Senate passed S. 3696, the “Disrupt Explicit Forged Images and Non-Consensual Edits (DEFIANCE) Act” by unanimous consent. The bill, which createsFederal civil remedies for individuals affected by non-consensual activitiesinvolving deepfakes, was transmitted to the House for further action. The Senate Committee on Appropriations considered and passed “The Fiscal Year2025 Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) Appropriations Act”on 26-3 vote. The FY25 funding bill includes a total of $73.735 billion, over $5.2billion more than the FY24 bill. Included in the bill is $38.426 billion for theDepartment of Justice, which is $906 million more than FY24.The Senate considered and passed H.R. 1067, the “Preventing the Financing ofIllegal Synthetic Drugs Act,” by unanimous consent. The bill will be transmitted toPresident Joseph R. Biden, Jr. for his signature.
