Thispayment will cover the increase in benefits dating back to January 2024, the officialrepeal date of WEP and GPO.Monthly Benefit Increases – Beginning in April 2025, those previously impacted byWEP and GPO should see their adjusted, full benefits reflected in their SocialSecurity payments.SSA Notifications – Any member receiving an adjustment or retroactive payment willreceive an official notice from SSA explaining their updated benefits.The SSA is processing these adjustments for over 3 million people, and while most willbe automated, some cases will require manual processing due to individual complexities.For questions, SSA has a comprehensive website with additional information, andmembers can call 800-772-1213 for assistance.This achievement is a testament to the power of FOP unity and advocacy. After decadesof fighting to repeal these unfair provisions, we have finally ensured that our membersreceive the benefits they rightfully earned. We look forward to seeing thisimplementation move forward quickly and smoothly, bringing long-overdue fairness tothose who have served with dedication.

Executive Director Jim Pasco spoke with both new and established executives at theBureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Executive Director Jim Pasco held several conversations with White House aides to thePresident on how the FOP can be supportive of the President’s agenda while makingthem aware of FOP priorities. @GLFOP @FOPNATIONALNATIONAL FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICEThe House Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing entitled, “Protecting Victims ofHuman Trafficking and Online Exploitation.” Witnesses included a survivor-advocate.THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESThe House passed H. Con. Res. 14, which establishes the congressional budget forfiscal year 2025, on a 217-215 vote. The resolution, which sets forth the budgetary levelsfor fiscal years 2026-2034, must be reconciled with the Senate’s budget resolution, S.Con. Res. 7. Once both chambers agree on a final resolution, it begins a process called“budget reconciliation,” meaning the resolution can be adopted with a simple majority,avoiding the filibuster in the Senate. The House Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing entitled, “Entering the Golden Age:Ending the Weaponization of the Justice Department” as it pertained to the Biden-HarrisAdministration’s handling of the Department and how the Trump-Vance Administrationwill correct it.On Tuesday, 4 March, President Donald J. Trump will deliver his joint address toCongress, expected to begin around 9:00 p.m. EST.The current continuing resolution that provides funding for the operation of the Federalgovernment expires on 14 March 2025. If a new continuing resolution is not adopted bythen, there will be a partial shutdown.

The Senate Committee on the Judiciary introduced S.768, the “Invest to Protect Act.”The bill, which is supported by the FOP, would increase local law enforcement’s accessto training, mental health support, and recruitment and retention resources.The Senate voted to confirm Jamieson L. Greer to serve as the U.S. TradeRepresentative on a 56-43 vote. THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE UNITED STATES SENATEThe Senate Committee on the Judiciary voted to favorably report S.331, the “HALTFentanyl Act” on a 16-5 vote. The bill now moves to the Senate floor for consideration. The Senate Committee on the Judiciary held a hearing entitled “The Poisoning ofAmerica: Fentanyl, its Analogues, and the Need for Permanent Class Scheduling.”Senators John W. Hickenlooper (D-CO) and Maggie C. W. Hassan (D-NH) reintroduced S.636, the “Public Service Employer-Employee Cooperation Act.” The bill, a top priority forthe FOP, would guarantee public safety officers the right to form and join unions andbargain collectively with their employers over wages, hours, and working conditions.
