Res. 566, the rule to govern debate on theSenate-passed version of H.R. 1, the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” on a 7-6 vote.The House held three lengthy procedural votes overnight before passing H.R. 1 on a 218-214 vote. The measure now goes to the President for his signature.
@GLFOP @FOPNATIONALNATIONAL FRATERNAL ORDER OF POLICETHIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE UNITED STATES SENATEThe Senate began debate on H.R. 1, the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” last Saturday.Included in the legislation brought to the floor is a provision that would allow a taxdeduction of up to $25,000 on overtime pay for those earning less than $150,000 peryear. The bill also increases the deduction for State and local taxes (SALT) from $10,000to $40,000 through 2029 for those earning less than $500,00 per year. The Senate stayed in session overnight during the weekend and into Tuesday to debatemore than 40 amendments and motions to commit, all of which were voted down.The Senate then passed H.R. 1 on a 50-50 vote after Vice President J.D. Vance brokethe tie. The bill was transmitted to the House which passed the bill and sent it to thePresident.Nearly 600 amendments were filed on the bill, including several related to the overtimetax deduction, increasing the resources for the hiring program administered by the Officeof Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), and the regulation of artificialintelligence (AI).
