The Department’s policy will permit federallydeputized officers to activate a body-worn camera while serving arrestwarrants, or during other planned arrest operations, and during the execution ofsearch warrants. The policy is the result of a pilot program launched by thedepartment last October.“After spending a substantial amount of time examining this issue, assessingthe results of the pilot program, and taking into account the interests andpriorities of all the law enforcement agencies involved, I am pleased toannounce that the department will permit the use of body-worn cameras on ourfederal task forces in specific circumstances,” said Attorney General William P.Barr. “The Department of Justice has no higher priority than ensuring thesafety and security of the American people and this policy will continue to helpus fulfill that mission.”The Department of Justice, through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearmsand Explosives (ATF); the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA); the FBI; andthe U.S. Marshals Service (USMS), partners with state, local, territorial, andtribal law enforcement on hundreds of federal task forces throughout thenation.
