The bill, which allocates $14.3 billion toIsrael and offsets this amount by cutting funding to the Internal Revenue Service,was transmitted to the Senate for further action.THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVESThe House considered, amended, and passed two appropriations bills this week:H.R. 4364, the “Legislative Branch Appropriations Act,” on a 214-197 vote, and H.R.4821, the “Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related AgenciesAppropriations Act,” on a 213-203 vote. Blinken andDefense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III testified at the hearing, which concerned theBiden Administration's supplemental funding requests for aid to Ukraine and Israel. THIS WEEK IN WASHINGTONTHE UNITED STATES SENATEThe Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs held ahearing, entitled: “Threats to the Homeland.” Secretary of Homeland SecurityAlejandro N. Mayorkas and Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher A.Wray testified at the hearing. The Senate considered and confirmed several U.S. Department of Defensenominees: Admiral Lisa M. Franchetti to be Chief of Naval Operations for the U.S.Navy; General David W. Allvin to be Chief of Staff for the U.S. Air Force; andLieutenant General Christopher J. Mahoney to Assistant Commandant of the U.S.Marine Corps.The Senate considered and passed a “minibus” appropriations measure, H.R. 4366,the “Consolidated Appropriations Act,” which includes funding for MilitaryConstruction and the U.S. Departments of Agriculture, Housing and UrbanDevelopment, Transportation, and Veterans Affairs. The Senate considered and passed S. 499, the “Debbie Smith Reauthorization Act,”which would reauthorize the Debbie Smith Act for five years and allocate $151million in funding by unanimous consent. The bill, which the FOP supports, wastransmitted to the House for further action.
