Theywere instrumental in passing the Social Security Fairness Act through the U.S. Senate—ahistoric victory for public safety professionals that is now law—at multiple locations overthe week. National President Patrick Yoes met with Executive Director Claire Selib of the NationalOrganization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) to discuss federal grant concerns.National President Patrick Yoes attended the Florida State Lodge Board Meeting inAtlantic Beach, FL.National President Patrick Yoes spoke with numerous media outlets.National President Patrick Yoes, Executive Director Jim Pasco, and Senior LegislativeLiaison Tim Richardson spoke at the legislative briefing for the 2025 Day on the Hill atthe National Law Enforcement Museum. Also in attendance were Legislative LiaisonsBenjamin Stokes and Laura Gormally.National President Patrick Yoes and Executive Director Jim Pasco participated in aroundtable discussion with police chiefs and other law enforcement executives todiscuss policing and criminal justice issues in Washington, D.C. with the goal to identifyareas of common interest and greater collaboration. Among the issues discussed wasthe need to reauthorize FirstNet and to preserve the 4.9 GHz band for the exclusive useof public safety. Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson and Legislative Liaison Benjamin Stokes metwith staff in the office of Senator Bernardo Moreno (R-OH) to discuss the “LawEnforcement Officers’ Equity Act.”Senior Legislative Liaison Tim Richardson participated in a stakeholders meeting withstaff from the offices of Representative John H. Rutherford (R-FL) and Senator T.Jonathan Ossoff (D-GA) to discuss the re-introduction of the “Homes for Every LocalProtector, Educator, and Responder (HELPER) Act.”

The bill, which the FOP supported, would permanently place fentanyl-relatedsubstances as a class into schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act.
